What is PDF?
Portable Document Format
You can skip this boring explanation:
Invented by Adobe, Portable Document Format
(PDF) is the published specification used by standards bodies around the world
for more secure, reliable electronic document distribution and exchange. PDF
has been adopted by enterprises, educators, and governments around the world
to streamline document exchange, increase productivity, and reduce reliance on
paper. It is the standard format for the electronic submission of drug
approvals to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and for electronic
case filings in U.S. federal courts. PDF files look exactly like original
documents and preserve the fonts, images, graphics, and layout of any source
file -- regardless of the application and platform used to create it.
But most important of all:
It's perfect for printing a printer friendly version of an article.
Important: You will
need the free Adobe Reader software installed in your system in order to
read and print PDF files. Most computers come with the software already
installed. What about my computer?

If the test PDF file opens, then you're all set.
If it does not open, or if your computer asks you
where to save the file, this is a sign that the software is not installed.
